Sustainable energy

Complex energy systems: A variety of measures must be combined to help resolve some of the Middle East’s most urgent challenges.
  • Going green gets gold Siemens wins the Zayed Future
    Energy Prize
    2013
  • Fuelling the future Shuweihat generates 5,000 megawatts
    of electricity and
    1.4 million cubic meters of
    drinking water daily
  • Electricity highway to the consumer Power transmission systems
by Siemens keep power in line:
up to 95% of energy transmitted reaches
    the consumer
  • Buildings saving a billion Siemens financial solutions and building technology make for a successful team: Worldwide, over 4,700 buildings have been modernized and €1 billionsaved
  • Masdar City Siemens’ new Middle East headquarters is Abu Dhabi’s first LEED Platinum building.
  • Energy efficient solutions on show From October 12-14, Siemens will take part in POWER-GEN in Abu Dhabi, displaying
    solutions for a
    sustainable future.

The population in Middle Eastern countries is growing rapidly, which in turn, increases the demand for electrical power. To meet these needs, sustainable energy systems for the countries on the Arabian Gulf will need far more complex, networked, and flexible structures than they have today – from sustainable energy generation to a reliable power supply, to efficient operation to ensure energy conservation.

The increasing contingent of renewable energy sources, such as wind power, requires reliable conventional power plant capacity, in order to compensate for the fluctuations of renewable energy – especially as our world still relies heavily on the Middle East’s fossil fuels. Siemens is involved in numerous energy efficiency and sustainable energy projects in the Middle East, such as Shuweihat II. This combined cycle power plant, complete with a desalination system, has supplied power and drinking water to Abu Dhabi since 2011. In November 2013, Siemens took part in ADIPEC 2013 in Abu Dhabi, the largest oil and gas event in the Middle East.
