Siemens completed the turnkey installation of a new remote baggage handling facility at the Bahrain International Airport. Over the last few years, the airport has been recording a steady increase in passengers and cargo volumes.
To ensure smooth operation and cater for this growing demand, the Bahrain Civil Aviation Affairs (CAA) has structured an expansion of the airport. In the interim, the baggage sorting facility that Siemens provided will assist the airport in meeting current demand until the completion of the new terminal.
The Variobelt solution designed by Siemens for the Bahrain International Airport integrates multiview screening technology as well as level 2 and 3 operator reviews. This recent innovation, applied only in a handful of international airports worldwide to date, reduces the amount of baggage requiring a higher level of inspection and streamlines the overall screening process.
Additionally, the Variobelt conveyors have an innovative design that allows flexibility in conveyor length, making it easy for expansion, in line with the CAA’s plans for the airport. Further the baggage handling system will reduce transfer times for the airport, thus enabling the airport to process more flights efficiently.
